GTIN on Wildberries and Ozon: where to find the code for cosmetics

What to enter for marked cosmetics on Wildberries and Ozon: find the manufacturer's GTIN, match it to the marking code, and check the exact consumer pack.

The serum box already has a factory barcode. A marketplace account asks for its GTIN, and suddenly it sounds as if the seller needs a second number. Usually the answer is on the box: the digits under the bars are the product's GTIN.

From 1 October 2026, marketplaces must check listings for goods subject to mandatory marking against the Chestny ZNAK system by GTIN. This applies to marked goods, including the relevant cosmetics categories. Existing listings without the required data have a 180-day verification period. Chestny ZNAK explains the rule here.

Where to find the GTIN

Check the manufacturer's package of the unit you intend to sell. The 13 digits printed beneath an EAN-13 barcode are its GTIN-13. GS1, which maintains the standard, distinguishes the product number from its printed barcode. In everyday work, both are often called simply a “barcode.”

So a request for the GTIN usually does not mean ordering a new code or printing another label. It means identifying the exact product number. If the package already carries a marking code, compare the GTIN inside it with the factory number. For cosmetics, the marking code contains a GTIN as well as data for the individual unit. A 13-digit EAN may appear there in a 14-digit form with a leading zero.

One cream, several numbers

“The same cream” in a supplier conversation can mean a 30 ml tube, a 50 ml jar or a two-piece set. Different consumer units may have different GTINs. A shipping case is another packaging level with its own number. That case number does not belong in the listing for a single jar.

Follow the chain: product name and size on the package → factory number → GTIN in the marking code → marketplace listing. Account for a leading zero in a 14-digit representation. Investigate any other mismatch before listing the item. One wrong digit changes the identifier.

What about a barcode generated by the marketplace?

A marketplace may generate its own barcode to manage a listing or a shipment. That helps its warehouse work, but does not replace the GTIN used to match marked goods to Chestny ZNAK. Do not paste a random code from the seller account into a GTIN field simply because it also looks like a barcode.

On Wildberries, sellers of marked goods enter the GTIN in the “Barcodes” field and provide the TN VED commodity code, according to the platform's instructions. Ozon has a different interface. On both platforms, the listing must identify the same product described in the marking system.

Check before placing the purchase order

If the shipment has arrived but its listing fails verification, the stock has already been paid for and sales may be delayed. Before ordering, ask your supplier for the exact SKU list, photos of factory packaging with barcodes, and marking information. Check the required product documents and import records too. For an imported marked shipment, the customs declaration contains identification or aggregation codes as applicable. The GTIN is inside an identification code, so the listing, marking and documents need to agree.

The composition of the shipment matters. One range may contain several sizes, sets and product identifiers. Checking one successful SKU does not clear the whole shipment. Whether cosmetics require mandatory marking is determined for each specific item; our separate article explains the pre-import check.

FAQ

Where can I find the GTIN for a Wildberries or Ozon listing?

If the product has a factory barcode, look at the digits underneath it. Match that number to the manufacturer's data and the marking code for the exact consumer pack.

Is the factory barcode the same as the GTIN?

Yes: the number underneath an EAN-13 factory barcode is a GTIN-13. The package shows both the number and its bar pattern.

Can one product have several GTINs?

Yes, if the name covers different sizes, sets or packaging levels. Check the GTIN of the specific unit you plan to sell.
